Contemporary living room with IB-02 white coffered ceiling beams and concealed warm LED uplighting

IB-02 lighting design guide

IB-02 · LED

A balanced coffered ceiling, drawn in concealed light.

IB-02 combines a broad, composed beam face with layered edges that remain legible in daylight. Add a carefully concealed LED source and the same profile becomes a quiet ambient-lighting feature after dark.

Design and lighting guide

How concealed LED lighting changes the IB-02 grid

A successful illuminated coffered ceiling does not look as though a strip light was attached to it. The source stays out of direct view; reflected light travels across the ceiling plane and reveals the rhythm of the grid.

Use indirect light to reveal the architecture

With IB-02, the layered moulding profile creates a clear boundary between the white beam and the illuminated ceiling above it. A continuous, warm ceiling wash can soften the room while preserving the crisp intersections that make a coffered or waffle ceiling feel intentional.

This is the practical difference between concealed LED lighting and a visible light strip: the eye reads the beam, the shadow line and the reflected glow—not the individual diodes. A compatible channel and diffuser can help the light appear even, but the exact setback and aiming must be confirmed with the selected lighting components.

Layer ambient LED light with recessed spotlights

Indirect LED cove lighting is most useful as an ambient layer. Recessed spotlights or decorative fixtures can provide task and accent light, while the concealed source keeps the ceiling visually active at a lower intensity. Separate dimming controls make it easier to move from bright everyday use to a calmer evening scene.

For a balanced result, coordinate the ceiling grid, furniture plan and spotlight locations before installation. Lights can be centred within coffers or aligned with suitable beam locations, subject to the fixture dimensions, required clearances and the profile selected for the project.

Plan the hidden components before the beams are finished

The cleanest installation begins with the practical details: the LED strip or linear source, channel, diffuser, driver location, wiring route, ventilation requirements and future service access. The ceiling finish also matters because a smooth, light-coloured surface reflects more evenly than a dark or heavily textured one.

Colour temperature should be chosen with the room finishes in view. Warm white light often complements plaster-white beams, wood and neutral interiors; the final appearance still depends on the specified product, dimming level and surrounding surfaces. Mock up a short section when colour accuracy and brightness are critical.
