Coffered ceilings,
drawn in light.

Lightweight architectural beams designed around your room and finished with clean lines and seamless joints.

01 / The profiles

Choose the shadow,
not just the shape.

Each beam profile changes how light moves across the ceiling. Compare clean lines, soft curves and deeper traditional details before planning the grid.

01 / The idea02 / The idea

A ceiling that gives the whole room its rhythm.

Coffered ceilings—also called waffle ceilings—turn a flat overhead surface into an architectural grid. The beams frame the room, organize lighting and create changing shadows throughout the day.

Everest’s plaster-coated profiles are lightweight, precise and made for painted interiors. Once installed and finished, the joints disappear and the grid reads as one continuous architectural feature.

Built differently

The architectural result—without building every beam from scratch.

Everest’s lightweight plaster-coated profiles replace many of the separate steps used to construct traditional boxed beams on site.

03 / The process

Measured first.
Seamless at the finish.

A successful grid begins with proportion: the room, the beam width, the number of openings and the position of every light.

  1. 01

    Plan the grid

Room measurements, lighting and sightlines determine the spacing.

  2. 02

    Select the profile

Choose the depth and detail that suit the room’s scale and style.

  3. 03

    Install and join

Lightweight beam sections are aligned, bonded and carefully finished.

  4. 04

    Paint as one

The completed grid is painted with the ceiling for a built-in appearance.

04 / Lighting

The grid can carry the light.

Plan recessed spotlights within the coffers or suitable beam locations, tuck LED lighting into the beam detail for a soft ambient glow, or combine both. Wiring can be neatly concealed inside the beams, keeping the finished ceiling clean. Fixture locations and clearances are coordinated with the selected profile.

All electrical work must comply with applicable local codes, laws, and regulations and be performed by a licensed electrical professional.

What is the difference between a coffered ceiling and a waffle ceiling?

In Canada, the names are often used for the same grid-style ceiling. Coffered ceiling is the broader architectural term; waffle ceiling commonly describes a regular square or rectangular grid.

Can ceiling beams be added to an existing room?

Yes. Lightweight plaster-coated profiles can create a detailed beam grid without rebuilding the ceiling in heavy timber. The layout is planned around room dimensions, lighting and existing ceiling conditions.

How do you choose the right beam profile and grid size?

Start with the room dimensions, ceiling height, furniture layout, sightlines and lighting locations. A shallower or quieter profile can suit a compact room, while a deeper profile can hold its presence across a larger ceiling. The grid should be centred and proportioned to the room rather than forced into a standard module.

Are coffered ceilings only suitable for high ceilings?

No single height works for every room. Ceiling height matters, but beam depth, grid spacing and the room’s proportions matter too. Shallower profiles and fewer, larger coffers can help preserve an open feeling where ceiling height is limited. The existing room should be reviewed before a profile is selected.

Can coffered ceilings include LED lighting, recessed spotlights, or both?

Yes. Recessed spotlights can be coordinated with the grid, concealed LED lighting can add ambient light, or the two can be combined. Wiring can be neatly concealed inside the beams. Fixture locations and clearances are planned for the selected profile. All electrical work must comply with applicable local codes, laws, and regulations and be performed by a licensed electrical professional.

Can pot lights be installed directly in the ceiling beams?

Sometimes, but not in every profile or at every location. The selected beam must provide enough face width and internal depth for the specific fixture, trim, housing or driver, required clearances and the lighting manufacturer’s instructions. Where a fixture does not fit safely within the beam, it can often be positioned in the coffer panel instead. Final placement must be confirmed by the project team and a licensed electrical professional.

Can the beams conceal wiring?

The hollow space within a suitable beam layout can provide a clean route for planned wiring, which helps keep the finished ceiling uncluttered. Wire type, access, fixture clearances and every electrical connection must still be designed and completed in accordance with applicable codes by a licensed electrical professional.

What makes integrated ceiling lighting easier to finish cleanly?

The key is to coordinate the grid and lighting before installation. Where a profile has suitable internal space, the beam cavity can accommodate planned cable routes and compatible fixture components, reducing visible surface wiring. Not every fixture fits every profile, so dimensions, access, heat, clearances and manufacturer requirements must still be checked before work begins.

Do you provide installation?

Everest Mouldings provides complete coffered-ceiling supply and installation throughout our GTA and surrounding service area—from Burlington and Oakville in the west, north through Newmarket, East Gwillimbury and Bradford West Gwillimbury, and east to Oshawa. Other locations are reviewed by project.

Where is product supply available outside the installation area?

Profile selection, layout planning and product supply are available for projects across much of Ontario and Canada. Delivery feasibility, lead time and freight depend on the profile, order size and destination, so projects outside the GTA installation area are confirmed individually before ordering.

How is this different from a traditional site-built coffered ceiling?

Traditional boxed beams often involve carpentry framing, drywall, corner bead, broad-surface taping and repeated sanding. Everest’s lightweight, pre-shaped plaster-coated profiles can remove many of those separate construction steps, helping reduce labour, installation time, mess and disruption. Actual time and cost depend on the room and project conditions.

What finish do the beams have after installation?

The plaster-coated profiles are joined and finished so the grid reads as one continuous architectural element. The completed beams are normally painted with the ceiling or in a coordinated colour. Final preparation and paint specifications depend on the project and desired finish.

How long does a coffered-ceiling project take?

Timing depends on room size, grid complexity, site access, ceiling condition, lighting coordination and finishing. The lightweight profile system removes several traditional beam-building stages, but an accurate schedule can only be prepared after the room and project requirements are reviewed.

How much does a coffered or waffle ceiling cost?

There is no reliable one-price-per-room figure. Cost changes with room dimensions, selected profile, number of intersections, perimeter conditions, lighting, installation location and finishing scope. A room sketch, dimensions, ceiling photos and project city provide the best starting point for a useful estimate.

What information should I send for a quote?

Send the room length and width, ceiling height, clear photos of the full ceiling, the project city and any lighting or fixture locations that must remain. If you already know the preferred profile or approximate grid, include that too. Site verification may still be required before installation.

Do the coffered-ceiling mouldings have a lifetime warranty?

Everest mouldings are covered by a limited lifetime product-replacement warranty for eligible manufacturing or material defects, subject to the published terms. It does not cover labour, removal, reinstallation, painting, electrical work or damage caused by improper installation or external conditions.

Are the profile dimensions shown on the website exact?

Published profile dimensions are approximate planning references. Confirm the current product drawing and exact dimensions with Everest Mouldings before ordering, preparing a grid or coordinating fixtures.
